Who We Are
Founded in 1831, First Lutheran Church has been part of the Galion community for nearly two centuries. We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), rooted in the Lutheran tradition and committed to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.
As a congregation, we gather people of all ages to worship, learn, serve, and build meaningful relationships. Together, we seek to share Christ’s love with one another and our neighbors in both word and deed.

Our History
ELCA Affiliation
First Lutheran Church of Galion is a proud congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We are connected to a vibrant network of nearly 10,000 congregations across the nation, working together to share God’s grace and love with the world. Through our churchwide affiliation, we are actively engaged in global ministry, disaster relief, and community outreach.
Our Wider Church Connections
- Our regional network of ELCA congregations collaborating to support local communities, equip leaders, and foster ministries right here in Ohio.
- Because the ELCA values Christian unity, we share formal ecumenical partnerships with other mainline traditions. This allows us to welcome ministers and share ministry with the Episcopal Church, the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the United Church of Christ, the Reformed Church in America, and the Moravian Church.
- Globally, we are a member congregation of the Lutheran World Federation, a communion representing over 77 million Lutherans worldwide, uniting us in faith, advocacy, and service across borders.
